It seems that this release also has a broken package manager bit the Opie and GPE releases will not install any icons to launch apps they have to be manually created.
anyone know of anyone else fixing it and releasing a version of this with working package managers?
Looks like the buttons that used to work on 3.5.2 are not working.
None of the top row are functional anymore, out of the box that is.
I am working to find a hack to get them back.
INIT: No inittab file found!!!!
OK. I booted into Single User mode, and did
mount -o remount,rw /
And then added the inittag file:
cat > /etc/inittab

And now I can boot into multi user and get the Opie 1.2 Screen. :-)
Wow! What a fantastic release. I am a Gnome user, and so have watched GPE with interest for a while. However, as I primarily use my Zaurus as a media device, it wasn’t quite ready at 3.5.2. However with this latest release, and gxine, GPE has now replaced Opie on my Zaraus, and boy does it look nice. Excellent work from everyone involved. I can see the price of a Zaurus begine to rise already on eBay ;-)

I recently flashed my sl550 Zaurus with openzaurus 3.5.3 and both graphical enviroments GPE and OPIE. The more stable (in my little experience) is GPE but is less attractive for me.
I’ve installed original or first released zImage with 32 -32 memory configuration and opie. So many times it hangs and when i wirte a document with text editor it goes to suspend mode but i can’t resume it.
I say suspend mode but could be another no operating mode i not sure.
I was able to install and get runnig a sandisk connectplus wifi CF card. I use this iface to try to install kismet but when it goes to link the installed packages it hangs and if i touch the on/off buttom it goes to the same hangy status described before.
i’m sorry about my english i could write more but it’s so dificult for me.

where is the OPEIplayer?? i can’t play mp3 or video
unlike the original Sharp ROm. also, all the programs i install in Sharp ROM works, but they won’t under OZ. any idea?
I just flashed to opie for 3.5.3
when i boot up i get a red warning sign that says something like
you are using the wrong kernal.
i exepect kernal (something)
you are running (something diff)
i will sleep for 1 min. use this chance to reboot with the correct
kernal.
What did i do wrong???
Just wondering, I have an SL-C3000, can anyone advise on what version I should be using before I try flashing it for the first time?
I’m worried I’ll bork it by putting the wrong version onto the SL-C3000 as the system is a bit diff, using a 4gb hd?
Is anyone else using an SL-C3000 safely with OZ? Is 3.5.3 safe to use?

I just reflashed my sl5500 with 3.5.3 and opie.
Then, trying to setup a static adress on usbd0. Must reboot so it works (after having tried to start the interface - tcpdump on my computer said it was looking for a dhcp).
Then I get it to work. I configure my computer’s IP adress as a proxy into the package system. update. uh ! doesn’t work.
I remove the proxies, each options…
it looks like ipkg runs wget with -passive-ftp, which is not recognized by busybox wget.
How can such an obvious problem can exist ?
3.5.3 is a GREAT release. I’m using my Zaurus again. There still seems to be a problem with alarms, though. If I set an alarm and suspend my Zaurus, I don’t see the alarms until I turn it back on. Otherwise, no sound or anything.
Have I done something wrong or is this a known issue being worked on?

Tried upgrading again (from 3.2), but still cant find a working decoder plugin for mp3, also ipkg is broken. What lib is required? libmad used to be loaded automaticly in the old releases but this is not enough now (this is why I didn’t keep 3.3.5 loaded) Why is MP3 playback and package management such an issue?
OpenZaurus project is amazing, I have replaced my laptop for many applications, but I cant get the pocketop infared keyboard driver working IRK packages in 3.5.3 I dont want to flash back…
After installing 3.5.3 and configuring my package sources to come from one of the mirrors, I can install the opie-mediaplayer2 and its accompanying packages, but if I want it to be successful, and for it to run properly, I have to install it to root. Since I don’t have a lot of space on root, this doesn’t leave room for much else, so I need to install it to my SD card. When I do install it there, the binary opieplayer2 is not installed anywhere so obviously the program can’t be run. Also, I can’t seem to get konqueror-embedded installed without a hang to the system. Can anyone help? I’ve really enjoyed this version, as it is the only option for my wireless Sandisk CF card. Thanks!
ok, ive been trying to download the 3.5.3 rom. i have been trying to find the files to install it. i see instructions everywhere but i have yet to see the actual files i need on the site. i have googled for it, gone to other zaurus sites and gone through other posts. everywhere either leads to more instructions on installing or dead links. i see the oz site has changed but i cant figure out where the dang files are at. any help would be greatly appreciated.
