OpenZaurus 3.5.4 tagged

Marcin Juszkiewicz March 6th, 2006

I want to inform all of you that I tagged OpenZaurus 3.5.4 in .oz354fam083 branch.

What does it mean for you:

  • if you are user then you will get OpenZaurus 3.5.4 soon (few days)
  • if you are OE/OZ developer then you can start working on OZ 3.5.4.1 :)

What was changed in OpenZaurus 3.5.4? List is too long to be even created but I want to note few things:

  • OPIE 1.2.1 (with lot of hires fixes made after 1.2.1 release - mostly by me :)
  • GPE 2.7 (also with some fixes which was done after 2.7 release)
  • 2.4.18 kernels with APM fixes so no more suspend/resume problems
  • WE18/WE19 in kernels so WPA should work out-of-box
  • cleaned pcmcia configs so CF cards should work out-of-box too
  • some of 802.11g CF cards probably will work
  • Enlightenment DR 17 images (experimental)

Now we need to start build machine and after few days we will release it.

OpenZaurus 3.5.4 test program is closed now.

REMIND: Due to lot of problems with 2.4.20 on cxx00 machines we decided to not release 3.5.4 for those machines. It does not makes sense to release 3.5.4 with crappy cxx00 support and then lose again our reputation before some weeks later we could have 3.5.4.1 with proper cxx00 support.

My life would be a mess with out my zaurus! Thank you guys so much for all the work you have done! Thank you for giving me something that works (mostly!) for me!

I can’t wait to try the new OZ!

    is V3.5.4 work on SL5500?

  3. Adamon 07 Mar 2006 at 10:39

    Marcin,
Nice job on the upcoming release! I’ve been kicking the latest RC around and it seemed to be miles ahead of the previous release; can’t report bugs if my usage doesn’t show me any!

    heya,

This is great news =). Can’t wait till it hits the servers (don’t worry, I’ll be a good little boy and use the mirrors…hehe).

But do my eyes deceive me? E17 on my Zaurus…? That would be sweet. Hmm..is this E17 proper, or is it that eye-candy-ish demo thingy that Rasterman released a while back fro the Z-5500? (Looked very cool, can’t remember what it was called, EFF or something).

    cya,
    Victor

have somebody tested 802.11g CF cards?
    I’m very interested in them.
    And will WPA2 also work?

Hey guys, you make a VERY GOOD JOB!!!!!

i’m assuming that the eventual 3.5.4 downloadable images will be exactly the same as those we can get by building right now with OE and that branch and tag, right?

  7. Mallet: OZ 3.5.4 will be released for 5000/5500/5600/6000/c7×0

rday: yes - they will be the same

Artur Neumann: iirc noone tested 802.11g CF cards in Zaurus - we have drivers for some of them (Hermes II based iirc) in OpenEmbedded so they will be provided. OpenZaurus 3.5.4 will provide:

    root@collie:~# iwlist wlan0 encryption
    wlan0 2 key sizes : 40, 104bits
    4 keys available :
    [1]: off
    [2]: off
    [3]: off
    [4]: off
    Current Transmit Key: [1]
    Authentication capabilities :
    WPA
    WPA2
    CIPHER TKIP
    CIPHER CCMP

Victor Hooi: Yes - it is E17. We did not tested them on collie anyway - only on clamshell devices. You will need to install it on SD or CF card as current E17 images are rather big.

You say Hermes II cf cards have drivers ? linksys WCF54G is such card I read somewhere, so it may work on 3.5.4 ? Previous messages on eosf forums say that up to now this card did not have linux drivers…

  9. Chrison 10 Mar 2006 at 13:18

just tried linksys WCF54G with 3.5.4test5 opie build and the card was recognised but no driver was found for it. should I pick a particular driver from the list?

    I can’t wait too!
I want to test the new release of GPE soon and have my wireless card back working!

  12. Eric, Chris: if you run OZ 3.5.4-test5 then check kernel-module-wlags49-h1-cs or kernel-module-wlags49-h2-cs - I was talking about those ones. It would be great to have confirmation does they work or not.

  13. tiranton 13 Mar 2006 at 01:27

Can’t wait to try it on my c760 :)

  14. Chrison 13 Mar 2006 at 19:42

Tried Linksys WCF54G with kernel-module-wlags49-h1-cs and kernel-module-wlags49-h2-cs and neither of them seemed to work with the card. On insertion I get the “successfully activated card in slot #0″ message, but when I try to configure the card, the configuration script doesn’t seem to remember which driver I’ve selected, so each time I open the configure window, driver is set to . If I remove the linksys card and re-insert my Preteck 802.11b card, it’s recognised immediately. Is there anything else I can try?

    OpenZaurus 3.5.4 releasing……

Mickeyl just gave me info that all packages were built and uploaded to EWI (our primary mirror). Whole OpenZaurus 3.5.4 takes 1.9 GiB of storage space (packages + images).

Today I will create feeds, check does they are OK and will prepare some kind of…
